Velociraptors is now closed.

Thanks to everybody who took the time to do the Velociraptors or super-spiders bonus experiment. It is now closed, as scheduled. You helped me try out the Assignment tool, and we are now using that tool for Writing Task 1A, item 2.

Writing Task 1A, item 2 is a 5 point assignment and part of your semester grade. It is due on July 7, but get it wrapped up as soon as you can, just to be on the safe side. Remember: there are two versions, and you will be randomly assigned to one version, and that is the version you must complete.

More items next week, in Writing Task 1B!

By the way, if you did not get to try the velociraptors bonus item, don't worry! We will have other bonus opportunities here and there, so keep your eyes peeled and be ready. I will always announce their availability here.

Adding and subtracting vectors

There is a new diagram sheet in Module 1 part B: how to use graph paper and diagrams to add and subtract vectors. Although it would probably help as you study this week, I set it in next week's part B of Module 1. GO FOR IT.

EXTRA: a mini-blurb sheet for chapter 3.

I just put an extra blurb sheet in Learning Module 1 part A. It is a set of extra tips and questions on chapter 3 concepts. Use it for additional studying. GO FOR IT.

Writing Task 1A, items 1 and 2

Here we go.

I just activated
  1. Writing Task 1A, item 1, and
  2. Writing Task 1A, item 2.
Look for them in Learning Module 1 part A. They are one-sentence tasks, 5 points each, due 11:59 July 7. There is a variety of each task. Webcourses will assign you your two tasks randomly:
  • three types of item 1, and you'll get one of them at random;
  • two types of item 2: "net forces" and "fuzzy dice" -- one of which you'll get at random.
These are one sentence tasks, to be graded with the writing rubrics published in our Webcourses area, and I will mark them down as zero if you write more than one sentence. I am a savage grader, so make that one sentence a winner.

Note: each item uses a different Webcourses method. Item 1 uses the Assessment method; item 2 uses the Assignment method. Writing Task 1B in next week's module will probably use the TurnItIn methods built into Webcourses. By Next week, I hope to have TurnItIn completely dominated and ready to use for the rest of the semester. So stay tuned for more writing work next week and the weeks following that.

Some new bonus points UP

I just posted a few bonus points for:
  1. Operation Green Protein, and
  2. automatically for "Velociraptors or super-spiders"
The rest of you guys, get ON IT... or lose out.

Velociraptor of super-spider BONUS

We are going to try out the Webcourses "Assignment" tool for doing our writing tasks, at least for now.

So I set up a bonus assignment called Velociraptors or super-spiders? in which I want everyone to try posting a few sentences. It is in Module 1 part A.

It is only one bonus point, so have fun. Any old sentence will work, even your patented technique for hijacking free donuts. ;)

Concept guide master plan

I just made up a blurb sheet about how the concept guides give shape to all we do. They are the nucleus of the coursework. It is in the course menu, left side, with this icon.

Bonus points to start the semester: Operation Green Protein

ABOUT OPERATION GREEN PROTEIN

It is always nice to start with some bonus points, thereby placing your grade temporarily at the top of the charts. So I have set up a small bonus assignment, Operation Green Protein, inside Learning Module 1 part A. It is a little worksheet type of thingy that the librarians have cooked up, runs good, and it covers plagiarism and how to avoid it. Read a little, take some practice, read some more, take some practice, finish reading, take the quiz .. the "assessment".

I will be able to see the highest score out of four attempts on its 10 questions. Get this done before July 7th and it will earn you bonus points: two bonus points if you max out on the quiz. I will upload the bonus points to Webcourses on July 7 or so.

GO FOR IT!

P.S. This bonus task has nothing to do with protein that is green or any other color! I just like the way the two words rhyme.

AIM intermittently today

I will be on AIM today, off and on, so catch me if you can.

By the way, I am not in Orlando right now... many hundreds of miles away from there!
