There are four new mini-podcasts covering 4 exercises from chapter 11. In addition, there is a new digital video, about 5 minutes long, about angular momentum.

Go to iTunes U and view these visual podcasts.

Most writing assignments 1 graded now

I just finished grading most of your Writing Assignment 1 submissions. Only a few that reference articles in Science are on hold, because the Science website is off the air right now. Hopefully I will get to them tomorrow or later tonight when sciencemag.org lights back up.

Instructions for Writing Assignment 2 will be posted next week.

About Writing Assignment 1.

Comments on Writing Assignment 1:
  1. When you are preparing your submission for Writing Assignment 1, just type it into the text entry box. It is a very simple assignment, so attaching a Wordperfect or MS Word file is overkill. Keep it simple, just type in your sentence and citation.
  2. Tell me what YOU find interesting in the article you decide to focus on. The assignment is about what YOU think, so a generic summary sentence is not strongest.
  3. Do this before next Wednesday.

The Week 6 learning module is up.

The energy learning module for Week 6 is now up. Personally, I think this is one of the most challenging concepts we will tackle this semester: energy and its meaning.

Please turn loose with plenty of questions in the Discussions area. The TAs and I will be reading and replying.

And I will try to find some of my old energy podcasts for iTunes U.

Week 5 learning module is ready

The week 5 learning module is now up, covering the concept of momentum. We will be trying to focus on momentum in Writing Assignment 1, 2 and 3, so dive in.

The writing assignments will also focus on energy and angular momentum, which form the core concepts of next week's and the week after's learning modules. So I will release those learning modules this weekend. You can get a head start in studying ahead.

Your exam 1 scores are now UP.

  1. If you look in your My Grades page, you will see the total score on your Midterm Exam 1 from yesterday. Avg. score was 28/40, 70%. I never give letter grades on individual exams, but if I did, that would be a C.
  2. On the Assessments page, you can select "View Submission" for Midterm exam 1, then click "Attempt 1" to see how you did on each question PLUS a short description of the question, so you'll know where to study up if you got some questions wrong.
By the way, I never "grade on the curve."

Exam 1 is ready, hit it at noon, finish before midnight.

You'll have 50 minutes for Exam 1, which will become takeable at 12:05 PM today. You must finish before midnight.

Once the allotted time has expired, you will not be able to save any more questions, so pace yourself. And read carefully.

Week 4 learning module

We are now looking into chapter 5, about Newton's theory of universal gravitation. Your learning module for this week is up, with some extra gravitational reading linked in the concept guide and in the learning module itself.

There is a very cool diagram in the water world article.
